South African War Memorial

The South African War, also known as the Second Boer War, is one of the most important wars in Australian history. The South African War Memorial was established to honour the South Australians who ventured to serve in the war, which was fought between 1899 and 1902. Also known as the Boer War Memorial, the South African Memorial is an equestrian statue which was unveiled in 1904.

It is located very close to the entrance of the South Australia Government Building in Adelaide. This monument has been an important part of the annual Adelaide ANZAC commemoration for several decades.

National War Memorial

: Although there are several National War Memorial centres spread across Australia, the National War Memorial in South Australia is quite an important one. It is one of the very first Memorials purposed by the Australian national government and unveiled in 1931. Its purpose is to celebrate the brave service personnel that fought for the country in the First World War.

The Memorial is located on the Northern Terrace, opposite the grounds of the Government House of Southern Australian. Although the National Memorial of South Australia is significant all year round, it becomes more important during Memorial Day celebrations. Notably, it is an important part of the Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day celebrations in South Australia.
